The maine coast is made to photograph, from the Yorks in the south to Mount Desert Island and beyond in the north , endless "coastal" subjects such as antique light houses of all size and description, lobster boats snuggly tucked into rocky coves, surf crashing on rocks and cliffs. In Bar Harbor boat trips can take you to watch whales, seals and puffins. All locations are easy to get to and geared for the tourist, but not in a "pigged" out way, for the most part the charm and authenticity remain. I traveled route 1 in Maine, and since I was interested in photographing lighthouses I was guided by the "Maine Lighthouse Map and Guide" published by Hartnett House Map Publishers . The first week after Labor Day is a perfect time to visit. Weather is great, season is over with few tourist, accommodation rates are off season with no need for reservations so the itinerary can be as flexible as you want it to be.

All photos were taken with the 18-200 VR lens. I am finding this lens to be a jack of all trades.
