Denali in autumn! the tundra is red, yellow and purple, no bugs, moose are rutting ....I was there most of the last week in August and first week in September, magnificent! I think Denali is all about big vistas, large landscapes and wildlife. In my gallery I included fifty photos, many more then usual, but I hope it conveys the sense of a BIG place. Most of the landscape photos were shot with the 24-120, the wildlife with the 80-400. I camped at the Tek campground and used the shuttle bus to get around the park. Each day I choose a different section of the park's 90 miles long road and was dropped off by the shuttle bus. I would hike from there, either on or off the road. There are distinctly different vistas i.e. geology, flora and fauna along the road, each day was excitingly different. At day's end I hailed the frequently passing shuttle busses for a ride back to my campground. The shuttle system in Denali is great. Not only does it get you around efficiently, the bus drivers are naturalist and provide ongoing commentary about the park and it features. You can learn a lot of stuff from these guys and gals. (Click camera icon above for a more detailed discussion about photography and logistics in Denali.) Alternatively, you can tour the park onboard a comfortable "wilderness safari" bus, more elaborate and costlier.
